BRIEF HISTORY The state of Assam came under the British Rule as a result of the historic “YANDABOO TREATY” of 1826. It made convenient for the American Home Mission Board, to pave the way for preaching gospel in Assam through the Baptist Missionaries of the U.S.A. Rev Nathan Brown and Rev. Miles Bronson, two pioneer American Missionaries came to Sibsagar in 1836 and 1837 respectively. These two missionaries first contributed a lot to educate the people of Assam viz. the Assamese by establishing schools. Nathan Brown opened a school in Sadia (upper Assam) in 1836 and Miles Bronson opened school in Garo Hills as well as at Sibsagar. Rev. John Firth, another missionary from The United states of America came to North Lakhimpur in 1893. The entire Lakhimpur District, at that time was full of Jungle. people used to move from one place to another by bullock carts or by riding horses about 80% of the inhabitants of the district were uneducated or illiterate.

Rev. John Firth purchased a plot of land and started a lower Primary school in 1893. His wife Mrs. Eva Webster Firth was a trained teacher and was looking after the school as the first principal. In course of time, other missionaries such as Rev Joseph, Rev. C.L. Swanson, Rev H.B. Dickson, Rev B. Anderson, Rev. Wilbur Sorley, Rev. Dana Larson, Rev. Holm and Rev. Eric Kratophil came here one after another and took care of the school and laid emphasis on educating the people of the locality. Rev. K.W. Hagstrom came to North Lakhimpur in 1946 and he upgraded the school from Lower Primary school to Middle English School. Just then three lady missionaries from U.S.A arrived in North Lakhimpur whose names were Ms. Swanson, Ms Peterson and Ms Jolly. These three missionaries were given the charge of the Principal one after the other. During their tenere, many students from Arunachal Pradesh (the then NEFA) enrolled their names in this school in 1967 and Mrs. Meera Handique was appointed as the first Principal of the High School. The first batch of students appeared High School Leaving Certificate Examination in 1971 and result was excellent. Out of 16 students 15 students secured 1st Division and the remaining 1 in 2nd division.

During the time of Chinese aggression (1962), all the foreign missionaries were asked to leave Assam and move to Calcutta or other parts of the country by Indian Government for security reasons. Since then, the school has been looked after by North Bank Baptist Christian Association (NBBCA). From 1954 to 1977 besides Assam, many boys and girls from other states viz. Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram etc. came here for studies mainly because of its discipline and quality.

The school is proud of having the Home Minister, the PWD Minister, the local MLA, Academicians, Administrators, Civil Servants, Social Workers, Sportsmen of the district and the state as its alumni. The school has 6 acres of land with a spacious play ground and a Boys’ Hostel. Preparation is on to reopen the Girls’ Hostel in near future. Information of the school in brief: 1. Established in 1893 by Rev. John Firth, the first American Baptist Missionary who came to North Lakhimpur and started the school. 2. School in Six acres of land. 3. Toys and play materials and spacious play ground for students. 4. Medical care for students. 5. Qualified and experienced teaching staff. 6. Personal care and special attention given to each student. 7. Moral and ethical teaching. Our school makes constant attempt to impart quality education by which we mean a kind of education that accomplished/causes holistic development of a child. With the holistic development, a child not only exhibits his/her potential but also realises his/her hidden and undisclosed creativity and imaginative skill within his/her consequently leads to oneself unique and self-worth. That’s what the education is all about-inculcating the feeling of being worth, good and unique. Such feeling is the source of positive energy in any individual because of which he/she starts viewing the world beautiful and the one who is able to recognize the beauty of the world, turns to be a sound individual with the set of high moral values which leads the children to become a good citizen.

This objective and realisation have made us accomplished varied activities covering three areas : (i) Curricular Activities (ii) Co Curricular Activities (iii) Extra Curricular Activities. Curricular Activities and Co Curricular Activities form our Academic part of education for which various innovative methods are employed; i.e. (i). Play-Way Method wherein the children are made to play academic games; (ii)Interaction Method-in which a teacher makes maximum attempts to encourage the children to share their own views; (iii) Use of IT to familiarize the children with technology that is the need of an hour;(iv) Dialogue Method and Role play to enhance the participation of a child to improve the communication skills.(v) Library Exploration to inculcate reading habits well; We provide sufficient number of opportunities to children to grow with some important personality traits like being confident, being competitive learning to co-operate, and co-ordinate and so on. The extracurricular activities have been segregated into (i) Competitions (ii) Celebrations (iii) Sports (iv) Skill Development Activities.

7. To sensitize the students towards the social and national issues.

9. To develop the feeling of belonging in students.
10. To make them realise the essentials of principles and values and to encourage them to make the values and principles as part of their character.
11. To inculcate creative skills.

1. To organised various kinds of celebrations viz. Annual Function, Festival celebrations, Sports day, Merry making day, Sweet day etc.
2. To plan and implement assembly activities keeping the objective in mind to prepare the students for stage performance, to develop communication skills, to share moral stories, and latest information and to enhance the positive and healthy interactions between teachers and students.
3. To assign self learning activities like assignments and projects.
4. To conduct various competitions like elocution, recitation, essay writing, singing etc.
5. To provide motivation to student for sustenance of desired behaviours and skills in the form of prizes, awards and certificates.
6. To impart the teaching of topics prescribed in syllabus with profound knowledge and with innovative ways.
